Mudd is just one of the pioneers and sceptre holders of everything we call now Balearic and he's been influenced by all those significant sound phases that marked the evolution of independent dance music since the late 80's.
Paul Murphy has always lived and breathed music being part of amazing musical projects:
to begin with, Akwaaba - alongside the long lasting friends Tom Lee and Steve Kotey - and their first release " Just Pilau" on the Idjut Boys Discfunction label in 1995, was his entry into the mid 90's nu disco era.
After releasing the two acclaimed albums " Do it Tomorrow" and " Too Shiny" , Akwaaba split in 2003 and Mudd went on to record his first solo album called " Claremont 56" for Rong Music.
The title of the album became after the name of his own record label which has given expression to peculiar soundscapes leading the way in the modern day Balearic scene.
In his own career, Paul has been one half of Smith & Mudd since 2000, working alongside partner Benjamin James Smith.
With Smith, krautrock legend Holger Czukay from Can and Salvatore Principato from the cult NY 80's band Liquid Liquid, he started one of the latest projects called Bison.
Mudd is also part of the live band Paqua with Bing Ji Ling and Patrick Wood from the Phenomenal Handclap Band and Patrick Dawes from Groove Armada and after a mini tour in 2013 look to extend that to a worldwide one in 2014 with the release of their debut album.
Tonight we're going to talk about the other record label he has given birth to. Leng Records has a roster of highly respected producers and DJ's - such as Mudd himself, Cantoma, Mountaineer, Mushrooms Project, Ray Mang, Idjut Boys, Lexx, Apiento & Co, Tiago, Tuff City Kids, 40 Thieves, Rhythm Odyssey, Fernando, Auf Togo, Psychemagik - that represent the label's approach to releasing quality music without restriction. From folk and the best of Ibizan sunsets to cutting edge house and disco tracks, the label is committed to a unique and fresh approach without following trends.
This Leng Special night will see Paul Murphy sharing the decks with the two Italian apples - pardon, Mushrooms - of his eye.
