For over two decades, DJ Amir Abdullah has been a relevant exponent in the music business by a careful balancing act.
On the one side, DJ Amir is a club rocking, crate digging, turntable veteran and vinyl purist, a record collector, archivist and adventurer through the myriad connection between jazz, funk, soul, latin, disco, house and classic hip-hop with a spirit that means to highlight the culture and the history of Black American music.
On the other hand, he's a deft businessman in the music industry who has worked behind the scenes at such venerable labels as Fat Beats Records, as A&R of Rapster/K7! Records in Germany, as sales manager for ABB Records and, most recently, as the label head of Wax Poetics Records and proud owner of 180 Proof.
As member of renowned duo Kon & Amir, from mid 90's, he has delivered the esteemed underground On Track mix tape series, ten compilations including four volumes of Off Track.
Shady Records, Pete Rock, Diamond D and Capitol Records, to name a few, have called upon Kon & Amir's expertise. His own client list has included Dilla, Madlib, Big L, Common, Dilated Peoples, Mandrill, The Mizell Brothers, Lyman Woodard and Dennis Coffey.
Amir is also part of the " I Love Vinyl" dream team that, starting from Brooklyn, organizes amazing parties all around US ... which kind of vibes he's going to bring to us: a vinyl only party in pure NYC style.
In a world where anybody with a laptop, or even an iPod, fancies themselves a DJ, Amir is here to keep the true tradition of the turntable alive.
